See U Soon Googly Eyes with Yana

Hello friends, this is Yana!

As I was playing with my stamps from WPlus9 (so thankful for the time-off work during Christmas as it resulted in lots of creative stamping!) I came across a fun “C U soon” sentiment (you can find it in the Friends For All Seasons: Summer stamp set). I immediately thought about using googly eyes and decided to make a fun interactive project.

I love to stamp my own unique patterns for my cards, so I started by pulling images from several stamp sets and bringing them together in one fun background. I went with several large and lots of small designs.

I used several images from multiple sets starting with a kite from the Friends For All Seasons: Summer. I stamped it 3 times onto a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ “ panel using Coconut Husk ink. Next I added adorable baby animals from the Happy Gang set - I stamped the kitty using Wild Mango and the teddy bear using Lake House ink. Brown, yellow and light blue always make a great color combination for both baby and everyday cards.

I also added a stamped Bonjour speech bubble, a tiny bee, and ducks from the Friends For All Seasons: Fall, a mouse from the Happy Gang set and finally a flower cluster from the Fresh Cut Wreaths set.

I still wanted to use the "C U soon" sentiment, but with my pattern being so busy and the sentiment being so small I felt I would loose it on my project. Instead, I used the Whimsy Alpha stamps and companion dies and stamped a much bigger and bolder "See U Soon" sentiment.

I used a layer of vellum and foam mounted my sentiment on top. Vellum helped to mute portion of the background and also helped the sentiment pop.

And of course, I adhered googly eyes to every kitty and teddy bear image and even added a set of eyes to the double "O" in my sentiment.

If you’d like to re-create this project, there’s one tip to keep in mind - when stamping partial kitties or teddy bears, make sure to stamp the head so that there’s enough room for the googly eyes. You can’t trim those off the edge of the card, so you need to plan ahead to make sure you’ll have enough space for the entire eye or both eyes on your partial impressions.

Have fun stamping!

Stretching Your Stamps with Natalia

Hello everyone! This is Natalia Valkovskaya and I’m happy to be back. Today I would like to share with you not a card per se, but rather an idea of how you can stretch your supplies and get the most of them. I’m playing with the Feathers and Florals stamp set from the latest WPlus9 release, which I absolutely love! It’s so beautiful and versatile! I’m sure you have already seen a lot of amazing cards with it. But today we are going to use it in a different way: we’ll be creating background forest scenes for three seasons using…feathers and leaves! That’s right!

To begin with, I diecut three panels from white cardstock with the largest of the Gift Card Layers Die – one of my best die investments! Then I created a mask (you can either diecut it or freehand it) from masking paper. First, you need to create the slopes.

I used Bo Peep for winter, Wild Mango for fall, and Mojito for spring. You can also use Tim Holtz Distress Inks for this.

Once the slopes are ready, we can start creating the forest. Remember to mask the slope first! For winter scene I used Lake House, Bo Peep, and Fairy Dust to stamp the "trees" using the feathers and biggest leaf stamps. I used Silver Lining to stamp the "trunks" with one of the feather veins from the set.

To stamp the fall forest I used Wild Mango, Flamingo, Cranberry Crush, and Appletini. And finally, for spring I used Mojito, Siren Song, and Sea Breeze. If some colors seem too vibrant for your liking, you can always use second generation stamping to soften and mute the color of the ink.

Now it’s time to use these panels and make some cards, right? For my winter scene I used this fun little snowman from Friends for All Seasons: Winter. I colored him using Zig Clean Real Brush Markers and die cut him using the Companion Die. Then I foam mounted him off to the right of the card and decided to add a rowan tree to the left to balance the presence of red color. What do you think?

I pretty much followed the same formula for the remainder of the cards. For the fall card I again used Friends for All Seasons: Winter set, but this time – a cute fox with a basket. I stamped the sentiment from Strictly Sentiments 2 in Coconut Husk to tie together the brown of the tree trunks, the basket, and the sentiment.

For the spring card, I decided to use the adorable critters from the Happy Gang set. Take a closer look at the sun… it’s a flower stamp - also from Feathers & Florals!

Hopefully I have inspired you to look at your supplies in a new way. Unleash your creativity and have fun! Before I go, I wanted to share one last card using the same idea. The feathers stamped in White pigment ink on Kraft cardstock creates a beautiful wintery look.

That’s all from me for today. Thank you for staying with me till the end. Be safe, and happy crafting!
